"Dogs that look at us are much easier to cooperate with and train. Humans may have bred this trait into dogs over the course of their domestication, she said. " is the fundamental mechanism for cooperation if you think about it," especially if, like dogs, you can't rely on spoken language, Benjamin told Live Science. Even more intriguing, dogs that sniffed oxytocin would then spend more time staring at humans. I am probably going to print your comment, without name, to let my husband read so he knows it is not just me (and him) that occurs with.Another study, published in the journal Science, found that both dogs and humans experience an increase in levels of oxytocin - a hormone that plays a role in social bonding - when they lock eyes with one another. As if I meant to do it, and for a long time, because it seems like at the time you could "snap" out if u wanted to, I thought maybe it WAS me, so thanks so much for sharing, even though I dont really have an answer to the questions, it is nice to know I am not alone. I am so tired of (for instance) being out to dinner, and sitting at the table, listening to a conversation, or waiting for our food, only for the next thing I hear/recognize/remember, someone say is "Hello, are u back!!" It drives me crazy. Also, I am so tired of hearing the less supportive people in my life tell me to quit faking it to get attention :( Thanks!! I am probably going to print your comment, without name, to let my husband read so he knows it is not just me (and him) that occurs with. You may wake up one day and find yourself in a similar situation. If anyone reading this is guilty of making these accusations, I hope you reevaluate your motivation for being so insensitive. Emotional pain is just as damaging as physical pain. should take this just as seriously as they were having a difinitive seizure. In all honesty, if someone actually is faking some seizure-type activity, it's really a cry for attention and their family, caregiver, etc.

I am a no-nonsense kind of person, so that would be a completely out of the ordinary thing for me to do. I think that would be frustrating and hurtful. Since epilepsy is argued to be a spectrum disorder, it's very likely that many people who don't have epilepsy, but have these staring spells, likely suffer from some affliction within the spectrum.įortunately I've never been accused of "faking it". Now that I'm medicated, I never have them, so that tells me that, in my case, they were clearly epilepsy-related. Before my diagnosis I had them all the time.

I had childhood epilepsy and i cracked my head open before, but I don't know if that actually has anything to do with me staring blankly into a dreamlike state, eyes open, still vaguely aware of my sorroundings yet completely incapable of processing words or actions until I am snapped out of the trance. I am in college now but it was very embarrassing for me in high school and middle school. I have noticed that it only happens for me when no one is talking to me directly for at least a couple minutes. This has happened to me so many times before.
